William S. Rubin, Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, discusses "Dada, Surrealism and Their Heritage", the subject of the largest exhibition at MoMA to that date. (This surrealism show later traveled to other leading museums.) Mr. Rubin presents an overview of the origins and inspirations for Surrealism, including the First World War, a growing interest in the irrational and the unconscious, dissatisfaction with the status quo and the radicalization of many artists. Rubin also addresses the differences between Dada and Surrealism. Artists referenced include Arp, Miro, Duchamp, Tanguy, Gorky, Breton, Dali, Ernst, Giacometti. 1968.
